Content Marketing & PR: One in the Same?

PR and Content Marketing have expanded over a wide variety of different channels in recent times and the two realms are now colliding like never before!

As a small business owner, it is extremely important to realize the benefits that you will experience by employing effective Content Marketing tactics. By providing timely, relevant, and useful information, you will be able to attract customers and build a loyal following that will drive your bottom line.

Below we will discuss the importance of Content Marketing for small businesses, and we will also discuss tips that you can use to ensure that you get the most out of your Content Marketing activities.

The first step to harnessing the power within Content Marketing is to understand how it fits into the PR equation. Public Relations is focused on influencing opinions and managing reputations, while Content Marketing is focused on lead generation and sales. With both, the practices involved are used to spread awareness and create a loyal following that results in mutually beneficial relationships.

Both PR and Content Marketing can be thought of as a marathon, not a sprint! The content publisher’s job is never done; it is an ongoing journey and not just a means to an end. Your content’s main purpose is to attract, educate, and engage your target markets and ultimately turn them into loyal customers/clients in the long run!

Now that you know how Content Marketing and PR fit together, having tips to understand how you can make Content Marketing simpler will help you to attract the customers and the profits that you desire.

1. Basic Elements
Every piece of writing for a company involves a variety of different elements: theme, plot, structure, characters, style and tone. You might also have to do some research, make sure that you are providing useful and informative information. With the use of these elements you will be able to create a piece that will have a positive impact on your audience and leave a lasting impression.

2. Use Keywords
As one of the holy grail items within the internet, keywords are essential for any content writer. The more keywords that you have results in better rankings on search engines and more visits to your website!

3. Create a Relationship
The most important group of people that you will know as a small business owner are your target markets, thus you will want to use your Content Marketing activities to create and nurture a relationship with them. By creating educational and relevant content you will be able to demonstrate that you are taking a customer-centric approach and you are not another soulless corporation!

The more that you are able to educate and empower your consumers, the more likely you will be to gather a loyal following that will continually purchase your products and services throughout the years.

4. Use Social Media
The most popular areas of the internet are social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest and the list goes on. You will want to learn how to use these social networks to help reach out to your target markets on a regular basis. Not only are social media networks one of the best marketing features, they also help you to distribute relevant content on a consistent basis!

  1. Great paintings! This is the type of information that are meant to be shared around the web. Disgrace on Google for not positioning this submit upper! Come on over and discuss with my website . Thank you =)

  2. Some good tips here. Something that is mentioned a lot but is worth reiterating is the importance of putting yourself across as a real person that can be trusted. Once a sense of trust and familiarity is created around your online persona then you can start to build a real relationship with the loyal people that will spend their money on your products.
One thing to remember though is to never try and sell your products in your content marketing. It is important to initially build relationships and then go from there, otherwise people will think that you’re just out for the quick buck.
Also, a note on keywords. It is a good idea to place key words throughout your content as this helps search engines rank it higher but be aware this tactic can also be detrimental to your ranking if they are used too much.

Great post with helpful tips, thank you.
